In 1990, the U.S. Congress established the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program (Employment-Based Fifth), designed for foreign individuals including investors, their spouses, and children under 21 (unmarried) seeking green cards and the benefits of U.S. permanent residency.
The EB-5 program offers two investment options: direct investment and investment through Regional Centers. Each year, the U.S. government allocates 10,000 visas under the EB-5 category, distributed to all countries. This allocation includes 3,000 visas for EB-5 investments through Regional Centers.
Since March 2022, the EB-5 program has been updated through new legislation, setting the investment amount at $800,000 for projects located in Targeted Employment Areas (TEAs), areas with high unemployment rates. The new law will be effective until September 30, 2027.
